About the Event

(echo) and so,

A capsule of time & space where movement & sound structures serve as an extension or reiteration of memories. Fragments of uncorrelated moments in time that remain alive through the crumbs of “what’s left” after an ending occurs. The work aims to hold room for this process of unraveling/deconstructing a recollection, and within this, search for a new way of recalling or remembering. How do memories resurface? How does the resurfacing become a memory as well? When met with rebuilding, with mending, (echo) and so, exists to ask, “what are the aspects that remain constant, that linger, that fully disappear?” Within the universal attempt to continue moving forwards, our work becomes a microscope. We are examining the duet between holding on & letting go, and the delicate point of suspension in which they meet, where neither energetic pull consumes the other.

...

Sound is a form of touch. How do we remember through hearing/feeling, as they come together in a score? Through a series of fragmented, re-remembered compositions, we explore different approaches to hearing and memory, moving along with—at times leading, and at times following—physical movement. Bringing together sound and dance as separate but entirely enmeshed presences in the room, we remember together through both mediums.

The CT::SWaM Plasticity Office is a sound installation and temporary spatial sound studio inside Fridman Gallery’s office/showroom, designed by sound engineer/artist Daniel Neumann. The installation-system will feature a rotation of performers who will be activating it as a space for events, presentations, workshops, experiments, talks, discussions, etc. The recordings of these activations will get integrated into the regular, daytime installation as added content, which will accumulate and change over the run of the show.
