Dindga McCannon: In Plain Sight

This catalog is published on the occasion of Dindga McCannon’s first major solo exhibition, featuring a survey of her paintings, prints and mixed media quilts from the 1970s to today.

An essay by Tammi Lawson, Curator of Art and Artifacts at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, draws attention to McCannon’s early influences and her role in several groundbreaking art collectives of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s and 1970s. The second essay, by cultural anthropologist, educator, and curator Niama Safia Sandy, explores McCannon’s importance for Black artists working today.
